Alternator trouble
1980 911 SC.
Converted to Paris-Rhone, internally-regulated alternator.
Alternator is overcharging -- approx 17.5 v. at 3000 rpm. About 12.5 at idle.
At startup, need to rev to 3000 rpm to get charge light (and OX light) off -- most of the time. But, sometimes charge and OX light go off as soon as engine starts.
Lights flicker rapidly.
Sometimes battery gets very hot. Not always.
New battery.
Already checked grounds. Good from alt to engine. Good from trans to body. Good from batt to body.
Where should I check for cause?

who did the conversion ? i seem to remember you have to add a resistor to the dash light , but cant remember the reason , maybe set up proper excitor circuit ?
could be just a bad alternaor .. take it back and have the work looked at.
oh and dont drive it like that or you will boil the battery and cause all kind of unpleasant issues.
