Default Wheeler Dealer "Faux Pas"?

I never saw the very beginning of the '73 Targa episode, so I "taped" it.
I still prefer saying taped to DVR'd it, is that even a word? lol
I opening scene shows Mike standing in front of a supposedly great example of a prestine 3.2 Targa. HOWEVER, it's a "naturally aspirated" narrow bodied targa with a Turbo Tail! I don't recall a Euro configuration w/ a T-Tail, unless it was a "Supersport" in the UK or the "Turbo Look" in the US that had the wide body. I was a remain a huge fan of the show, but I am suprised that they showcased this car!

I'm sure they are looking at the overall condition of the car, and not minutiae like which tail is installed.

If i remember correctly, when asked what to look for when buying a 911 the owner stated to look for mayonnaise in the oil filler cap in case the head gasket had gone, well you would'nt want coolant in your oil now would you!!!!

A "great example" of a car would include attention to details (or, "minutiae").

I'll have to check my books on that combo.....don't recall such a variance but that doesn't mean it never existed (until the true experts weigh in).

Thanks for sharing, sargepug.

Best!

A show about buying, rehabbing and selling a wide variety of cars, in an entertaining way, isn't going to get into details of what is proper on a given 911. When one looks at some of the cars they buy, a "great example" is one that Edd doesn't have to work his magic on, while on a shoestring budget.

I guess I have become a classic Porsche "snob" at this point! lol
When I bought my Targa, I didn't even realize that the previous owner had a T-Tail / incorrect tail on my Targa! Not until I brought it in for the PPI and shop onwer said great car, but why the turbo tail! You should get a Carrera tail, duck or no tail at all. I had no idea what he was talking about! haha

I love the show and of course understand the nature of it. Car is prisitne looking for sure and obviously was why it was choosen. Just was suprised to see the incorrect tail on it. A GREAT source for info, is Wikipedia. If you plug in Porsche 911, a very detailed history comes up. Great reading!

My favorite part of the show is Ed's shoestring fixes. I am amazed sometimes at his patience for plastic parts with brittle wires coming out of them.

You can only be a superstar mechanic, by having his incredible patience. I could NEVER "fiddle" with things like he does.
