Default 911sc 1980 brake upgrade

I have a 1980 911 sc that needs new calipers on the front
The car has a turbo style wide body and 18" wheels
Instead of keeping with the stock brakes Id like to upgrade the rotors and calipers

Is it possible to fit rotors and calipers from a 2002 boxster s to my car on the front and back

or if not what big rotor and caliper option can i get to fit

boxster stuff fits - you need other stuff to make it work
964 front is a good option
Carrera rear is a good option

I guess the biggest question is what are you trying to achieve and what are you having trouble with right now

here is some info to get you thinking:

I'm looking to get better brakes and to have them look good
At the the moment the setup on the car looks lost with the big wheels
I have an option o buy the boxster s bits at a really good price but I don't want to waste money buying them f they wont fit the car
What bits do you need to get the boxster calipers and discs to fit

you need to switch between axial mount (sc) and radial mount (boxster)

so a kit something like this one - or make your own - or???

(ps - would like to see a pic of the car with the wheels if you can upload one or many)

also on the rear IIRC you have to trim the trailing arm near the hub like this:

You could fit 930 calipers and rotors. Also, Race Technologies used to make a nice kit for the SC and Carrera that used the 993 TT front and rear calipers and rotors. Had this kit on my previous Carrera. It came with all the necessary hardware and adapters. Not sure if they still produce it. There is also company in NJ called VCI who make various adapters and kits for brake upgrades for the SC/Carrera.

JMHO,........

Boxster brakes (which are basically caliper upgrades) still look "lost" inside a 17" or 18" wheel so if that's one of your objectives, you should consider the Brembo GTP (or GT) kit.

The GTP's use 323mm rotors (vs your stock 282mm ones) and the GT kit uses 35mm rotors, however that kit isn't cheap.

im going to source the parts from a breakers in the UK
Im based in Ireland and haven't had much look finding them

Will the boxster s rotors fit the car

So im safe going ahead and buying the boxster s calipers and rotors (they come as a set from the breakers) as my installer should be able to make them fit

Thanks for the advice so far

I'd do some more research if I was you

Boxster brakes are a caliper change, not really an upgrade as the rotors used are the ones used on a 3.2 Carrera, the Boxster calipers are designed for 24x298 and 20x292 rotors so they do fit the 3.2 Carrera 24x282 and 290x20 rotors reasonably well, you just dont get the full effect because of the smaller rotor diameter in front.

Boxster S are the same as 996 and want 28x318 and 24x299 rotors, some have mananaged to fit these rotors on modified hubs but they aren't good matches for any oe 911 rotors

930 would be the most appropriate upgrade if you use 15" wheels and is a true upgrade, 16" and up can be used too of course

the Race Technology kit(Brembo's Nort American marketing arm) mentioned above is also very nice, though mine came w/ 993RS calipers and rotors not 993tt, I do believe that they were supposed to have been supplied w/ 993tt versions.

I don't like the Brembo GT-P kit at all unless they have changed it a lot in the last few years, they did have a GTP-L kit that looked pretty good though

I had the Boxster brake upgrade on my 81sc. Seemed nice but I never tracked it.

My race car has m491 look with the 930 brakes. They (pads and rotors) last forever and properly maintained never go soft. Upgrade the master cylinder if you go this way. I have been using CCW 17's. Just ordered Keizer 15" wheels (from Jim Buckley) that fit over the 930 calipers.

Bill if I get the rotors from the boxster and fit them to the car will that work and then use the boxster calipers so I would have a full set of boxster brakes on my car

It should give better braking as I currently have the stock setup and the rotors are quite small

I would also end up with better looking brakes

If I get the adapter kits would this work

thanks

No I stuck with standard rotors. I will find a picture but it will be with them covered with the fuchs.

This is from a dealer that had it up for sale a couple of years ago. Tried to buy it back but I was too late
