Post Brake Caliper Sizes ?

What are the specs for the Boxster S versus 996 calipers / discs (diam, piston sizes, thickness). I thought they were the same but the part no's are different.

I currently have 944T calipers on a SC and I am now looking for something for the 2nd SC (front). Boxster calipers are available off the shelf at great prices.

Any takers? Thanks, Tom.

Tom,

If you are only going to use your 2nd SC on the street, Boxster calipers as an upgrade may be OK. For the track, however, there have been reports of the calipers overpowering the 84+ Carrera rotors causing rapidly boiling brake fluid and cracked rotors. One vendor here in the US has stopped offering the upgrade, due to those problems. Again, for just street usage it's probably OK.

Bill & Bill & Co.
Thanks for the speedy reply. The 2nd "SC" is not for road use. Its a widebody (100% GRP), poly carbon window, lightweight (i.e. fun) car build on a G Series 'tup' with a full cage, coil overs, 3.0 w/carbs, etc.. The project is a BUDGET friendly 911 race car, thus the Boxster S caliper idea. I have about 900kgs (1900lbs?) only to stop, hence the "cheap" brakes might work??? I have plenty of cooling air on this setup.

Thanks for the very direct reply Bill#2. Regards Tom.

Tom,

You might want to contact Steve Weiner, whose email is porsche@rennsportsystems.com, and seek his opinion. He has extensive experience in racing brakes.

I race a 914 weighs in at 1900lbs w/3.2ltr that is carb. I have used Boxster calipers w/Carrera rotors for the past three years w/no ill effects. Rear brakes are slightly modified M caliper w/early vented rotors.
