Default ALL 83' SC OWNERS

What the hell?? For everyone thinking of changing oil and cleaning sump plate screen, don't bother...there isn't one. Found out to my chagrin the 930.16 engine, 64D3_ _ _ _ or so and up didn't have one. What I hear is it was the happy preparation for the carrera 3.2 case. (One less gasket!!) so later production's 86'd it........Guess my beloved 83 cab has a mongrel engine of sorts.....Now to find a safe jack position??? any ideas?? sean

Safe jack position, for what? The answer may depend on that.

For getting middle of rear-end up to place jstands, don't want to go side to side with a jack pad etc

If he has the single drain plug, it would require a completely new case-a pretty BIG deal.

Use the motor, or you need to go side to side. Or, a lift!

He said he had a 'sump plate' so I thought he was missing the screen only, if he has the later casing what's the issue?

I should have read between the lines, didn't get it.
Yes, later engines had the newer casing.

The change was made about 1/2 to 2/3 of the way through '83 SC production...

Peter, (or anyone) hello: Question, how does this affect oil changes? without the 2/3 quarts coming out of the sump on drainage and 10 or so from the pan, whats the best way to get all of it out? drain, re-load, heat-up and then drain again?? Kind of strange they would modify case right in the middle of production.. thanks

There is still a drain in the case-it just doesn't have the sump plate.

Yep, Ed's right. Just drain the oil like a regular car. Remember, "getting all the oil out" doesn't matter. The car will always have some trapped in the front cooler/lines, so a little left behind is no big deal. When you're done, and the new filter is on, put 9 qts in the car, go for a drive, get the car hot (front cooler hot to touch), and top up the oil level - idling, on level ground. A typical SC will take about another 1.5 qts...leave the corrected level about 1/2 way between "min" and "max" on the dipstick.

Remember; one drain plug on the engine, and one plug on the reservoir.
