Default '82 SC Transmission - What's This?

I was prepping to drop the powertrain on the SC today when I came across this on the passenger side of the transaxle; what it is? Since it's electrical the first idea is "Back-up light switch" but it's in the wrong place (differential/final drive section and not tailpiece) and doesn't look like what's in the parts catalog, Pelican, etc. The wiring looks like an afterthought as well, but since there's obviously a place for whatever it is in the diff housing it is not. Thanks; I finally figured that out after thinking on it. I wasn't "tuned in" to the electronic speedo coming in as early as it did.

The date on the sender is 12/53, long after the car was built (delivered 1/82). So that was replaced sometime after that date. The car also has the 150 mph speedo and I'm pretty sure it came with the 85 mph model (thank you Big Brother). Do the sender and head have to be replaced as a unit maybe? The parts catalog doesn't seem to indicate that unless I missed something.

Anyway, thanks.

The sender and speedo are not matched to each other and can be replaced independently.
