Default 1974 RSR ...question and STOP ME ?

OK....let me just put this out there. I'm becoming obsessed with the Longhood RSR look, you know....silly thoughts about owning one at some point in time.

Take this example.

Is this something that will or will not retain value ? I'm not looking for an investment, but I would like to have an understanding of how an exit plan would unfold if I did own one.

Thanks

Wow, great work and very sanitary rebuild. That would be a sweet ride.

One of few that looks like it's been built well. You certainly couldn't build it for much less, unless you did the labor yourself. And yeah, I'm talking the paint, etc.

But what is it you expect from a car like this? You're pretty much buying 3D art. Any number of 911s in stock form at that price point are faster, and actually work as road cars. (Not like you can even use much more than what a 912 is on the street these days...........) Track? Wouldn't fit in competitively anywhere within any existing set of race rules. DE hot rod? I suppose. But there aren't too many of us waxing nostalgic for our youth in driving these at the limit. Again, many better choices at the price point.

So........back to looking at it as 3D art.

Well, I guess thats what I really like about it....the 3D art. But the more rational part of me says your comments are spot on, especially for the price point, which is probably what I needed to hear.

Thanks

Are you thinking about building one, or buying one?

Like any car you build, the resale value will be less than the amount you spend to build it. But one that's already built should hold its value very well. The longhood cars are going the way of the 356s, value-wise.

I built mine. I can't imagine ever selling it.

Jack...I was thinking of buying, I'm just fighting my rational self. Your car is what has led me towards the 'longhood fever'.

You are so correct. I am 56 live in the middle of the city, have a 3D 88 Carrera Club Sport with 325hp 3.8 and it turns out that the car is useless to me.
I am one of those that obeys the speed limits and found out the long way that a car is a tool and the correct tool for me is a dedicated track car with the correct saftey gear and with that the need for a tow rig and trailer.

Default RS/RSR

I'm looking at a similar irrational purchase. An '81 body RS clone with a 3.8L, VERY well done. While not as expensive as the example above, it would purely be a toy and even a DD. Why not? Im not getting any younger.

We'll see, but if you want it, can drive it frequently and aren't that worried about the money....go for it!

Agree....keep the economy moving....the not getting younger deal goes off like a 3 alarm firebell.
