Started the search, eBay listing bids seem to stop short of $13-$16k, private sellers looking for $20+k. What's wrong with this picture?

I'm looking for evidence that these cars are actually selling within 10-25% of what they are asking. Asking prices seem really inflated compared to where the market seems to be.

There is also a wide spectrum of condition in the cars you are looking for. I saw cars that should have been headed for the crusher priced right up there with perfect cars. What do you want to pay and what condition are you looking for.

I'm starting to think '78 - '88. I want to pay $10k-$15k for a clean runner. I'll keep the remaining $10k in the bank for repairs and whatnot. I'm not looking for a garage queen, I want a toy to play with, not something to show off at 911 gatherings.

I'm tempted by the guy who will take $11k for his '77 targa, could probably sort out the remaining (if any) dreaded 75-77 issues on this 120,000 miles car.

I haven't seen a G50 car in decent to good shape sell for less than 20k in quite some time

You will find $10-15K clean SC's and Carreras in short supply.

If you pop you budget to 20, I'm sure you can find a nice car.

I've been "watching" all of these for the past week on eBay. There seems to be a standoff between buyer and sellers. Buyers are putting the market between $13k-$19k with sellers "reserve not met"

I'll keep trolling the Internet until I fall in love and do something irrational.

Enjoying the conversation with you all though!

It's also winter so people aren't shopping as aggressively as the spring. It took me over 6 months to find my car and I paid closer to 30 than I did 20 (for a 70,000 mile near-mint example). Unless you want a rough car, expect to pay at least mid-20s as dealers will buy them up before you do if you want a bargain.

I don't think ebay is the best example of market price, usually a lot of dealers on there trying to get 25k for 17k cars

Shoot me an email (not PM) and I'll give you some details on an '83 coupe that I was turned onto last week. 82 y.o. long time owner passed, and his son-in-law is selling it. It's not Wine Red, it's not Rosewood--it's the copper-ish color that I forget what Porsche called it. Black sport seats, that need a little love.

Sub $15K, probably $11-12K would get it. IF, and that's a big IF, it's how it's been described is accurate.
