The Rometsch is a coachbuilt... they made 175 of these Beeskow bodies... of which about 35 remain known. interesting bit about the Rometsch... it was designed in 1949 and built from 50 through 1956. it is all aluminum. The fender eyebrow over the front fender was swiped by Mercedes Benz and used in their 190 and 300 SL's later.

Reiver... I looked and searched for nine years before finding a beeskow to buy. That was 16 years ago. Then took another 5 to restore it.
Ed Hughes ... Yes... Sort of "school bus vinyl" sound deadener... Similar to pre A 356.

Overresto....How does the Beeskow drive/handle?
I really like the balanced design for and aft, very smart looking. I can tell it doesn't see too much road time due to its scarcity but with the VW base it is an eminately drivable collectable.
Great car.

Reiver,
The chassis is a 56 vw pan... but with 356 brakes, koni's, a front sway bar and a rear camber compensator. the original engine was an Okrasa... but the car now has a super 90 engine... with larger P&L's... and a lot of work done to it... about 120 hp. The original trans was a crash box like any early car... it has been replaced with a synchromesh trans from 1963... big difference. Tires are avon radials... quite sticky... but the wheels are pre A 16 x 3.5 so everything is pretty skinny. It is fun on a twisty road... sliding sideways at 45 mph on the corners. The aluminum body means you don't want to park it in a parking lot... or under an avocado tree. It is a solidly built car... very comfy and nice. they just never made it because they were too expensive at the time and didn't have the dealer network support. These days the cars that remain are mostly in museums or large private collections. Half in Europe... half in the USA. Not too many driving much. Ours gets out about once a month. Excellence did an article on this car a few years ago.
