3.0 SC coil question
Gents,
I've searched and read all kinds of stuff about what to replace an original Bosch Black Coil on an SC with CDI unit.
German Bosch black coils no longer available.
I have a good orig German unit now.
I read that an MSD 8222 unit has almost similar charactersistics to the Bosch unit.
I read that the Brazilian Bosch units are crap.
The guy that rebuilds the CDI (Pelican) says using anything but a bosch coil will eventually fry your original CD (he has a dog in the fight).
Hope to have an answer prior to the Mayan end of the world scenario so I can have a spare when we all go weightless.
What are you guys using in your SC's if you run the original CD?

I busted one of the nuts right off the Brazilian coil I bought locally. The store manager apologized for even selling it to me. Apparently they get most back the same day they sell them for exactly the same reason.

I bought one before I found out how crappy they are...the plastic around the posts came improperly formed (looks like broken chips but just bad casting)...so the quality control is non existant.
I have a good original black (proper SC) coil and a good used blue Bosch that guys have been using on the SC with no problems.
The concensus is that the MSD Blaster 8222 (high vibration epoxy filled) coil is a good replacement too and they only run about fifty bucks and can be mounted upside down no issue.

Please forgive the OFF TOPIC post....
Reiver, what do you think? It's a velcro audio cable strap from my wife's music studio cut down and wrapped around at 12:00. Yes or No?

For me...nope. Get some yellow plastic 3m tape and give it a tight wrap, you want your hands to be able to glide over it. I just put a MOMO type 69 (used with patina like my car) on that has the suede wrap and finger grips on the back. Looks very proper on the 83.
Don't look now but somebody moved your guages all sideways.

"The guy that rebuilds the CDI (Pelican) says using anything but a bosch coil will eventually fry your original CD (he has a dog in the fight)."
Wrong! Basically any coil will not be a problem for the Bosch CDI.
The Bosch blue coil will be O.K. and is preferred. Check here for more info on coils
under 'Typical Ignition Coil Values'; http://www.systemsc.com/diagnostic.htm
By the way, I never said that to anyone.
