Default 911SC Maintenance / Repair DVD

Hi guys,

I got an 82 sc a few months ago, and it's been a dream. I'm a new Porsche owner, and very new to this board. I'm pretty new to working on cars, but handy, so I've been fixing whatever small problems arise on her, and it's been going pretty well. That said, I'd like to be at the point where I can do all maintenance myself, and ideally fix most problems. I bought one DVD on sc repair, but it really wasn't too thorough, so I'm wondering if any of you have any suggestions. I know there's lots of books on the subject, but watching a repair on video is just so much easier for me. Thanks,
Rich

Rich:

Welcome to Rennlist and the vary large Porsche community that will answer probably every question you could possibly answer.

I don't know of any DVDs in which to point you. But I would want to take the opportunity to point you towards the "101 Project for Your Porsche 911" as one of the good books. Between that and this forum, I think you'll be in good hands.

Your SC Targa looks wonderful. Best wishes with it.

Dan

I'm sure I bought the same DVD a few months ago when I bought my first Porsche and found it really lacking. I have been doing all the work myself on the car and have found the online forums to be the best source of information (rennlist and pelican parts). The 101 projects and Bentley are also really valuable books to have available as is Adrian Streathers book on the Porsche 911SC - the essential compainion. I have also found myself referencing Peter Zimmermans "The Used 911 Story" for background on general 911 issues although it was most helpful prior to purchase.

If you need reference manuals, your best bet, by far, is to cruise e-Bay for a set of Porsche manuals. The factory books are advanced, the diagrams and photos are excellent, and the text is easy to follow.

As noted, you'll need to master your reading comprehension skills-no DVD's. Books or manuals seem to make a lot more sense when you're working on a project, a video would be useless to me.

Haha this is actually an idea I've been mulling around for awhile, although more specifically on the engine building side

I think wayne made a video for how to rebuild porsche motors, and I wouldn't want to steal his sales but I've always wanted to make a youtube series on some porsche how to's. Maybe's its just being a product of the internet age but I think that information like this should be free and some people learn better from seeing than reading

Now if I ever can get around to doing it haha which well working in Saudi isn't gonna be anytime soon, plus the 3.2 is healthy (knock on wood)! Also if the next job lined up goes as planned I'll be in Sydney anyways, and my 85 won't be able to come with unless I convert it to full track duties, but its a bit on the too nice side to do that....

Thanks guys, I'm happy to now be a part of the community. I'm planning on picking up the 101 Projects book soon, with my next order from Pelican. The DVD I got is the 911sc Tune Up DVD from Pelican. I was just hoping for more for the $40 I spent on it.
