Default buying 1974 911E

HI

I am planning on buyiing 1974 911E. Body and interior is in excellent condition and all numbers are matching but engine is leaking and smoking. Seller is asking $8000.
Also is there anything I should look out for?

The last 911E was made for MY73 and was a 2.4 liter animal. In 1974 the long nose bodies went away for the American market and the model designations changed to the 911 and the Carrera (with the duck tail). The "E" was the mid-range model for 1973. There was the Super or S model, the E or Einspritzen model (German for fuel injected) and the Touring model or T.

The coolest bit of info I know of is the '74 is smog exempt in California. In other words the shy is the limit when it comes to engine mods. this isn't in CA is it?
