Ice,
I checked (removed, sanded, and replaced...) the grounding strap as one of the 1st orders of business. Since the alternator, w/regulator, was just replaced, do you think it might still be the reg.? Incidentally, I just repeated the exercise with the same results...car still; 12.25V. Car started; 13.5V. Shortly later, the voltage dropped to ~12.1V and stayed there. I fiddled with some wires around the battery, but no resolution. Once it drops out, it's done for the day, it seems.
Are there specifically other grounds to check?
When the batt light is out, it's out. I haven't had it come on during these checks...I also added turning the headlights on and off, and the voltage definitely drops below 12 (11.8-ish) but the light stays off. Bad news, I suppose?!.

Re: + terminal at battery. The small wires should be tight before placing the wire clamp over the + terminal. With the ground strap removed, hold the positive terminal in one hand, and give each small wire a gentle tug. If you see any corrosion, or find a loose wire, remove the small nut, and the wires, clean and solder as necessary. Be sure to use a washer under the small nut when you put it back on, without it can bottom out before the wires are tight.

Does the light come on with just the ignition? Something is dragging that voltage down. It should never drop like that. Too bad you didnt have a performance profile before the work.

I've had the red wires off and on several times. They are tight. Don't know where else to check; by the time the terminals on the regulator are exposed, the alternator is off the car! Tough situation, I know. Maybe I got a faulty alternator? I'm going to call a local guy recommended to me to see what he says. Thanks for the help!
