Default Need help selecting a muffler- Dansk

I installed the used Bursch I picked up on the cheap to go with my 1.5 headers- I'm not liking the "can of bees" sound very much (great for the track, I'm sure).

I'm looking at
2 other mufflers:

Dansk OEM replacement 2 in 1 out

Dansk Sport 2 in 1 out

How much louder/raspy is the Dansk sport muffler over stock? All I want is a slight increase in sound, or I'll just go with a stock pipe.

Thanks.

I suggest the stock pipe. The sport muffler can get noisy.

It would be so much easier if I could hear them both on a 2.7 car... louder is okay, just not stupid loud and/or droning. The Bursch is actually nice at idle and at steady cruise, but as soon as you touch the throttle, it sounds like a rip saw.

I have the Sport on my 3.0, CIS, SSI's, and 964 cams. Exhaust note is totally intoxicating and NOT too loud.

Hope this helps.

You could pick up a used stock muffler and modify it. You can grind the weld around the outlet pipe and pull the pipe out of the muffler. The tailpipe actually extends into the final chamber of the muffler eight inches or so and is perforated with holes. Once you remove the pipe you can butt weld a 2.5 in. tailpipe onto the muffler. I did this mod to my 3.0 and it had a sound similar to stock but deeper and sounded good. No resonance or droning and very minimal cost.

Elaborate please.

I've got a pristine used stock muffler (picked up from fellow Rennlist member ) that will be my good stock muffler for smog checks and would like to mod my existing crappy muffler. Thinking RSR looking, but not sure about muffler internals.

I was referring to a stock dual in, single out muffler. Your picture looks like a sport muffler which shouldn't need any modification. the stock muffler has a resonance chamber in the area where the tailpipe exits the muffler. The pipe itself extends into the resonance chamber and the pipe has many holes in it. If you remove the tailpipe you are opening up the final chamber. Then you can just butt weld a tailpipe in the size of your choice onto the end of the muffler. I used a 2.5 in. pipe. The result is a stock appearing and freer flowing single outlet muffler that has a deeper, throatier sound but is not obnoxious, raspy, droning, or overly loud.

I'd love to see a few pics of that process...

Have you looked at the M&K sport muffler? It's light and has a nice sound to it.

The M&K is probably worth more than my entire car. lol. I know people like them, but they are too spendy for me, at least on this particular car.

Default Bursche headers

Brand new Bursch headers after 3 hrs of use...all the paint burned off in 20 minutes... fitment wasn't too bad, but the finish is nothing short of nutty....

I installed a new Dansk OEM 2 in 1 out on my 71T to replace the original stock muffler hoping to get a little reduction in sound. It turned out the new one was slightly louder than the old stock one. I have new SSI heat exchangers and the engine is bone stock.

SSI's will increase the level of sound.

I suspected that, but the comparison between the old and new Dansk was with the SSIs installed on each, so I noticed a slight increase in sound with the new Dansk over the old.
