Default smoke, oil burning?

Took a nice drive yesterday and upon parking at my destination I noticed smoke coming from underneath the rear end, mainly coming out of the tire well on the right side of the car. I am leaking some oil there, so might the burning oil on the pipe be the cause for this smoke?

Temp was fine, oil level was fine, car ran great! Drove home with no problems... I'll get it looked at, but what do you guys think?

Thanks!

Sounds like you have an oil leak that needs attention,.....

Very likely the valve cover gaskets have given up.

Time to find the leak as Steve deftly notes

Also, if it is a valve cover gasket, it is likely time to adjust the valves, too.

Valve cover gaskets are a likely culprit, but there are a few other thing up above that could leak-oil cooler or its seals, cam tower-head seal, etc. But, the mechanic should be able to unravel, and hopefully it is simple.

The engine I'm servicing now has tight valve cover gaskets but a couple of the base gaskets were leaking. Now knowing the design flaws of the head studs, I would explore those as the underlying culprit.

i can t remember what all these cars are we are talking about .. you guys should put your cars in your sigs ....

the 2.7 has design issues no doubt and would suspect that for base gasket leaks. with a Carrera i'm with Ed and if its not the valve cover gaskets ( I think the 993 gaskets resolve this ) you have some other leak such as the oil cooler, cam tower to chain box leak or oil return tubes.. a lot of 911s leak oil , but i would say if its smoking like that it was either really hot or you have quite the dribble.
