Default Loose air box cover

Test drove a really pretty 1980 SC today. While inspecting under the lid I noticed the straps that hold the air box cover on we're missing/ broken and the cover was loose. The car sounded fine and seemed to drive fine as well but it is only the second time I have ever driven a 911. Would the lack of a good seal on the air box cover effect performance? The odometer reads 68K but the car definitely has more on it. The present owner has had the car 10 years and the previous owner rebuilt the engine when the odometer was replaced. He's asking $14,500 for the car and he has a bunch of records but an incomplete history. Interior was mismatched seats and cracked all around. Not sure how to evaluate its value. Any suggestions?

Nobody here can give you an estimated value based on your limited description, limited to no details and no pics. To attempt to do so, is conjecture. Based on the suspect history, this wouldn't be my primary choice if I were looking for a 911.

the air filter cover will not affect performance as it is unmetered air. the straps are no big deal but if the strapping locations that the straps fasten to are broken thats kind of a big deal. means to fix it right you need a new airbox and it means dissasembling the cis system.
