Default Question about CV joint bolt length

I recently installed new axles with CV joints, and the bolts that were provided with the complete axle kits were much shorter than the bolts that I removed from the car. Pelican says that the bolts provided must be used with these axles (8mm bolts), but after installation, I can see that there is probably 1- 1.5mm of threaded hole left in the flanges on the transmission- I would have expected the bolts to be flush or protrude at least a little bit from the back of the drive flanges..

Does this sound right to you? Do your bolts protrude from the back of the flange?

I don't want to damage these new CV joints by having the bolts shear off.

It was a while back but I think I ended up using longer on the diff side. Schnoor washers, dry torque.

These axles are supposed to be provided with 47mm bolts, but Loebro threw in 45mm bolts. The CV joints are 33 mm thick, so they have only 12mm of thread protruding from the other side when installed. 2mm difference = 1/6 thread loss on each bolt- kinda like running each CV joint on 5 bolts. I don't like that.

Pelican's tech article says to torque the 8mm size bolts to 61 ft lbs. That is simply not possible without stripping the threads. My book says 31-34 ft lbs. The parts schematic for the 8mm bolts shows no washers or keepers of any kind. The CV joints with 10mm bolts shows both washers and the curved arc piece with two bolt holes. I installed mine per the parts schematic, with no washers.

I will re-torque again after 3k- thanks for the heads up guys. New bolts on the way..

Now you reminded me what i did with mine. Went slightly longer and put in bellville washers.

Ps 30 lbs sounds right. 60 is insane. Must be some kind of missprint.
