Default My first Porsche - 1979 911SC

I have wanted a Porsche 911 for many years and finally pulled the trigger and bought my hobby car. I have much to learn.

Thank you to Peter Zimmermann for your valuable book "The Used 911 Story" - It really helped with my purchase.

Thanks for the welcome. Had my first box of items arrive from pelican parts today and jumped right in to my first minor project.

New lens for the H4 headlight. PO had repaired a crack with silicone.

Now to start digging into "Porsche 911 SC The essential companion" and the Bentley service manual to learn more details about the car.

The SC IS the best!!!! My first 911 was a 79SC Targa, and I had some of the best memories of my life with that car. Unfortunately, I purchased it without a PPI (stupid) and paid the price. Finding a pristine '79 SC is still on my list for the future. Driving that car on the twisties was such a blast.

Congrats on your purchase. This board is a great place with great people. Enjoy it!

Congratulations on your new car! My first Porsche was an 80 SC, wish that I had never sold it now!

Howdy, nice looking P car....not my first Porsche but my first 911 is an '83 SC....love the car, rock solid and a great fun car/daily driver.
Have had it 9 months and put a tad over 7k miles on it. No issues whatsoever.

Default One month of ownership

Just past one month of ownership and the smile on my face everytime I drive my Porsche just seems to get bigger. These forums have been invaluable as I learn more about my car and tinker with all the little things on my todo list.

In the first month of ownership I have:
  • replaced the cracked H4 headlight glass
  • repaired the dashboard clock
  • installed new trunk shocks
  • replaced broken fog light and refurbish both
  • remove amp from trunk, rewire headunit
  • install new turn signal switch
  • install headlamp relay
  • install all new bulbs in instruments
  • re-stitch steering wheel (took 6 hours but looks great)
  • install new front bumper smile

Up next is to replace all the shifter bushings. Although I really enjoy working on the car, driving it is what really makes my day. After a long day of work, nothing is better than getting home and taking the 911 out for a drive.

I can totally relate to that, flying back to the country all I think about is my flat 6 firing back to life! Hope to see you around some SD events in the future!

Congrats and welcome! I love the chrome around the windows, it adds enough contrast to the paint. Did you find the car in SD? I'll be there next summer and plan on purchasing a car hopefully for a great price (meaning cheap). Care to PM me what you paid for it?

What are the details on the car (mileage, maintenance)?
