Post Electric mirror fix?

Has anyone attempted to fix an electric side mirror. Just wondering if the motor can be replaced and if so, how does one get it out of the unit once removed from the door. Seems like an awful waste to have to throw out the entire unit! Cheers,

I used a paper clip and epoxy to repair one on my 78 but only becuase I like to tinker with things like this. You can buy just the interior motor assembly at the dealer.
