Proper Voltage Readings
I just purchased the alternator/battery monitor below. (http://equus.com/Product/3721). I leave it plugged in while driving to keep an eye on things.
I have an '88 911 with a one year old Paris alternator.
Trying to figure out what normal voltage readings I should be getting.
I get the following:
Key to on before starting - about 12.2V
Immediately after starting - about 13.95V
Loading up with headlights, a/c fans, and radio - about 12.8 V
Am I in the ballpark for a properly operating system?
Any help with what the specs are would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Gene

Thanks everyone! Have thought about getting the tach modified by North Hollywood to include a voltmeter...

Burning Brakes
I just found out by playing with my new JVC KD-NX5000 NAV/radio/DVD that it has a nice voltage monitor built into it; 1 screen shows voltage, speed, compass, and time. On the way to work this morning, in the dark with headlamps on the voltage was reading 13.3v. NAV speedometer was showing 60mph while analog speedometer was showing 64mph.
