Post Information on particular car's options

I seem to recall reading about a service that tells you what options were delivered on a particular car. I just bought 1988 911 cab and plugged in the VIN on carfax, but only got a title report. Is there any way of checking to see how the car left the factory?

Thanks,

Lew--
your recollection is correct. It is/was? called a Kardex. You can contact Porsche Cars North America and give them the VIN and they will tell you which options the car had when it was built; for $35 or $40, they'll send you a certificate.

Do a search here or on Pelican; I seem to recall that the actual document left some underwhelmed.

Lew,

You can get the information for free by calling Porsche at 1-800-porsche, and ask for customer service. Tell them you want to know what options were on that particular VIN. They can give you the option numbers, but not what they mean. There are books and web resources that can fill in the meanings behind the option numbers. The kardex is great if you want something in print from Porsche.

I paid the ~$40 to PCNA for the certificate and so on. It is a nice thing to have but not all that it's cracked up to be. It came in a nice folder and the certificate was nice, but nothing to write home about. I have started to collect options books, paint charts and so on from 1981 so this was a nice compliment.
