Default Newb with a wheel fitment question

Hey Guys,

I'm picking up my first Porsche next week after years and years (since 94) of playing with Japanese imports. It's an 82 Targa with a widebody conversion. It currently has black turbo twisties on it, which I really don't care too much for. I'd ike more of a classic look. I found this ad and wanted to make sure they would actually fit correct:

Looking forward to becoming a "local" here.

.. not sure .. they might fit .. acording to the seller they do .. but you have a widebody car so the offsets might make it look odd. I would really think about BBS on a classic 911 too... I think you know what the general consensus is gonna be.

Depends on if the previous owner did a widebody conversion on your suspension

Mine did not, and I need spacers to run my Fikse's FM10's from a real 930 out back, the fronts fit fine though. Theres a couple routes you can go with the spacers as well, in reality my wheels will clear with a 15mm spacer out back, BUT I don't track these rims, thats what the Kinesis K28's are for , and I didn't want to spend the cash having longer studs installed, so I run 35mm's spacers to clear the studs.

Not sure bout a 235 fitment on the front... my 225's are pretty tight

Thanks. I don't mind running spacers in the rear, as this will just be a daily driver (for now). I have a type-r that is still being used for track events.

If it does get to seeing track use I've seen plenty of guys use longer studs with spacers... I just didn't need to go that route as my K28's don't need spacers anyways, and are marginally lighter than my Fikse

In fact my neighbors RSA is an old club racer and the previous owner was running spacers on longer studs on the car, unfortunately when I was raiding my neighbors spacer stash he didn't have a 35mm haha... ahh the benefits of having a long time p-car owner as a neighbor!

Thanks. I wish the guy was local so I could simply test fit. It would make me feel a little better.

What was he running them on before?

The FM10's are really similar to the BBS in style, I'm sure you could find a set on here for a 930, or even a 911 for 2Kish

The key thing here is that he has wheels that fit the existing chassis, so assuming he likes the fit, then he wants wheels w/ the same width and Et and tire mounted.

So the question really is, what is the width & ET and tire size of the wheels on the car now?? They could be oe 993 or 996 turbos twists which all had various high o/s but also had widths from 7.5 to 11" or the could be aftermarket low o/s wheels w/ who knows what o/s.

So to answer your ?, tell use the specs of the wheel/tire set on the car now, and if they fit as you would like them to fit.

another issue is that I do not see the ET of the new wheels in the ad, I see the width and tire specs but not ET, that is a critical piece of information.

Hi Bill,

The owner said they came off a 944 Turbo with a GT racing wide body kit. When you say "ET" do you mean offset?

W/o knowing the width and offset(ET) any response is pure conjecture
yes, offset o/s - ET - Einpress Tief (PUSHED IN DEPTH )

Bill, sorry. I know what offset is. I've just never seen it abreviated (ET) before. He thinks they are 52 and 55.

Again, thanks for the help.

Ok, 8ET52 & 10ET55 are possible fitments for a 993/996, then what is the width and o/s of the wheels on the '82 targa that you want to replace?

Got a little more info. The wheels on the vehicle right now are:

front - 18x8 with a 50 offset and 225/40 tires. Using a 1" spacer.
rear - 18x11 with a 45 offset and 295/35 tires. Using a 2" spacer.

ok now we can compare what you have w/ what you want
have
18x8 with a 50 offset and 225/40 tires. Using a 1" spacer. This nets to 8ET24.6
8x11 with a 45 offset and 295/35 tires. Using a 2" spacer. This nets to 11ET-5.8

want
8ET52
10ET55

so to get the wheels you want to fit the way the wheels you have fit(at least the outer face to sit in the same place) use spacers
front 8ET52, use 27.4mm spacer
rear 10ET55, use 60.8mm spacer

Bill, thanks again. Is it common in the Porsche community to run that large of a spacer (60mm)? I've never used anything larger than 25.4 on other vehicles.
