4 speed '76 N/A??
Hi,
I am looking at possible purchase of a 1976 911 (165 hp) here in Europe. It has a 4 speed manual transmission. I thought that 5 speed was standard, so presumably this was an option? If so, what's the difference, besides the obvious?
cheers

Derek,
I purchased a '77 911 in Germany about 15 years ago. It had a 915 4-speed gearbox. The 4-speed was standard equipment on the 911's sold in Germany in 1976/77; I assume the same was true in Sweden.
Other than the gear spacing being wider, the 4-speeds were fine. I changed mine to a 915 5-speed a couple years after I brought the car back to the USA. In retrospect, I should have left the 4-speed gearbox in the car because 4-speed 911's are rare here in the States.
Regards, Bruce

I also have a 76 Euro with 4spd.I was almost not going to buy it for that reason. The 4 spd is not that desireable so I got the car for a good price. Also I drove alot of 915/5s and they all had trans issues. The 4pd shifts really smooth I think it is a little stronger then the 5spd.
