It does take a while to get a car just right. I can vouch for that:

I disagree on the height - it looks really close to me - too low looks silly and unless you have some big azz t-bars hidden in there can cause rubbing over pumps.

the wheels are personal choice - I dont like them but whatever - you can change that in 15 minutes if you desire.

tilted guages - when running a 350mm wheel unless you tilt or move your head you cant see passed 40-50 mph - mine are set so at 120 the needle is behind the wheel, I dont watch straight away speeds only entrance speed to the turn at the end of the straight....straights are just flat out so I hit somewhere about 130+

having the one rotated, why not rotate the oil so you can see it, and the tach so you can look straight ahead and shift when your peripheral vision sees it is straight UP make sure you actually get to redline at least once / day if not more frequently

go drive it and have fun, dont worry what "the collective" thinks

Thanks everyone. I've been reading a lot because this is new to me, and incredibly different than what I'm used to. The one thing that troubles me is the sloppy shifter, and it has an aftermarket short throw already. My frame of reference is shifting T56s and Tremecs. If it's in gear, is it normal to still be able to move the shifter side to side 1.5 to 2 inches?

Search shifter bushing refresh. It is different, the 915 trans, but not bad.

Thanks a lot Ed, I've enjoyed going through your posts. I've been reading up on the shifters. From the 3,000 recommendations out there, I'm down to the Wevo Coupler, a Seine System, and a bushing kit. Feel free to tell me if that's overkill or if I missed something.

there is a factory short shifter... I have one from factory, look at Seine Shifter as well so that it creates an "H" pattern for shifting. Also, like Ed mention, shifter bushings, couplings... you really got to nip it in the butt from start to end and deal with it as a system.... all the way down to adjusting your clutch and pedals. yeah, welcome to German madness, but once it is dialed in.... all day long.

here's a Sein Shifter setup... I believe Ed (Ivangene) makes custom ones as well.

That's a good combo. The Seine kit will keep you from pulling into 2nd when you shouldn't. The Wevo coupler is nce, but new bushings in a stock coupler does wonders too. The short shift kit isn't necessary, IMO, although some with shorter reach may like it for that. The added force needed to shift gears can accelerate the wear of weak components in the trans.

Hi and welcome. Curious, what are the tire sizes you are running? Although I'm a fan of the Fuchs, I do like the look of those wheels on the car as well. Besides, you don't have the same issue I'm grappling with now, which is where the hell am I going to get decent rear tires for my 8x16s.
Nice looking car, I just picked up a Momo that is nearly identical to yours as well.

cheers

Thanks irob, the rear tires are 285 35 18, I believe the fronts are 245 40 18. I think these black 5 spoke wheels with the lips, with a similar staggered dish is a good updated fuch-type look, but I think I'm in the minority.
