If you have ever had a commpression test done on your engine what were the numbers on all six cylinders???? I want to know what your mechanic said after this about your engines?? Mine are 130 125 125 125 110 120!!!

There are different ratios for different years: 8.5:1 for '78-79 and 9.3:1 for '8o-83. If you don't burn oil, don't worry. If you have high milage, consider a top-end rebuild and re-ring and re-seal at the same time. Your readings may be on the low side but sometimes a different mechanic will get different readings again. Enjoy. <img src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" border="0" alt="[bigbye]" />

Before I swapped out the 3.0 for a 3.4, my compression readings on the 3.0 were in the 143-145 range. Check it again, it seems your compression is on the low side.
Good Luck !

Crash,
I've been told the SC range is 160-175,(mine are 165 on my 81 SC); I don't know about the variance between the 78-9 & the 80's.
A question to the board - in addition to different reading s from different mechanics, does a cold engine v. a warmed-up engine have any impact on this test?

What year is your Porsche, and what is her mileage?. I'd get a second opinion if you're not blowin smoke. Those readings seem low - 110 on #5!?. My wrench says under 160 is time top up the piggy bank for a top-end renovation.
