I would not run Nexens. I recently replaced rear tires on my '83 SC with Falken RE-912's, that I had installed on front two years ago, and am not happy with them. Too much tail wag (flexible sidewalls?). You want a fairly stiff tire on back unless you are a leisurely driver.

I think that is correct, and a 225 on an 8 is going to be a better tire. Do you want looks or agility ?

Hey Daniel -

I really want both - looks and agility -- But I understand your point. I've got a bit more life left in my tires before I have to make a move. I'll keep researching...

Too bad about the Potenzas, if you can find them, they are solid everyday performers. The Nexxens are similar to Kumhos, you get what you pay for. My experience is that they get progressively louder the older they get. Have you looked at any of the Toyos? The R888s have an aggressive pattern, or if you want more traditional look (I know you like the traditional look of fuchs :-)), you could go with RA1s. Both are in stock at tirerack.

The Tire Rack no longer carries tires for stock 930/911 with stock 7 and 9 inch rims.
I had the same problem, but was able to obtain the correct tire from:
www.tires-easy.com
Bought NEXEN N3000
245/45ZR 16
205/55ZR 16
Very happy with the tires, current mfg. date.

Why is the 225 going to be a better tire than a 245 on an 8" wheel?

Just curious... I would have thought the greater footprint of the 245 would provide more girp. I guess the downside is that a greater footprint makes the car less responsive?

I would definitely go with 45 series 245s, not 50.

I used to love the Bridgestone S-03s. I would probably buy nothing but them each time if they were still made. I can't recall which Potenza I went with after the S-03s were discontinued. I want to say Potenza 750 PP, but not sure. Anyway, they were CRAP! I went with Fuzion ZRi the last two tire changes, and I think they're really great. Unfortunately they have looks that only a mother could love, but they do grip well.

The stretch or pinch of the tire on the wheel greatly impacts its grip and transient response. Different tires have different responses. For instance, I used to cram 245 Kumho and Hoosiers on an RX8 8" wheel for autocross and they worked well. 195 Toyos work awesomly on a 7.5" wheel. Not so much an 8" or more and not so much on a 6".

And check out the stretch on my current car:

These tires like a wheel that is 1" or 2" wider. Testing will tell you what works best.

bluetone did you get your 45 series tires? I need tires for my 930 so Im looking around.I'm curious to know if the new Bridgestones are actually the same size as the original 245x45s. I once owned a Testarossa which the rear tires were unavailable for many years until Michelin produced some. They had the same numerical designation but were definately not as wide as the original Goodyears. If you did get the new Bridgestone, how do you feel about its size, etc? Thanks
