Check with Zims in TX, as I believe they have rebuilt CD units for a reasonable price ($250?)- Reasonable as compared to a new Bosch CD unit at >$1K, as I recall. Bosch coils for the SC's are pricey, for coils, from just about any source. You can also go to an MSD 6AL, which requires a different coil. Search the archives for more details on the MSD alternative. There are some other options, however, some have flakey problems.

I just went through this, Zim's and Pelican both rebuild your Bosch core, Zim's is a little less expensive than Pelican, but Pelican has a faster turnaround. Otto's of Venice had rebuilt units available, but is the most expensive. He ships you a rebuilt box and you send him your core.

Other options are a new Permatune for ~300, or changing over to a MSD, details <a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/cgi-bin/rennforums/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=003328&p=" target="_blank">in this older thread.</a>

MJ,
I have a Permatune CD box (6-pin, SC model) that's gathering dust...it was barely used and looks new. You can have it for $175. Email me if you're interested: noahpollak@yahoo.com

Thumbs up

I replaced my CD box with a Crane Cams Hi Performance unit. Inexpensive, works great and Crane Cams is awesome to deal with. They really stand behind their products.

What is it that breaks inside the CD box? Is there a typical cause, e.g., wiring faults?

They say (and they do say alot) that the coil goes bad and shorts out then it shorts out the cdi module.
