Post Head Studs

Hi,

Someone I know is looking at buying a 1987-1988 Carrera. It previously had a couple of broken head studs that were fixed (in addition to new valve guides). Could there be any short or long term engine damage from the broken head studs?

Tom,
Professional wrench (and all-round good guy), John Walker has posted here, or someplace else, that the heads can be damaged. If the motor is run for an extended period of time, there is a "hammering" effect that eventually destroys the machined sealing surfaces.

I have lost a head nut and suffered errosion
of both the cylinder and head sealing surfaces requiring turning both the head and
cylinder and replacing the base gasket with a thicker one to compensate.

damage can result. usually the heads and cylinder tops have to be trued, as previously stated, to have a leakproof seal.if it's caught soon enough, there may not be any damage. unusual for a later carrera to break the painted dilivars.
