Question Refinished Fuchs

Just looked at a 86 coupe and the owner showed me the newly refinished Fuchs with tires mounted. Two weird (for me) things; 1) The trim rings were painted silver and not polished and 2) They were refinished with the tires on (could see silver over spray on the tires). Has anyone ever seen this before and is it fixable? Thanks.

"Refinishing" comes in many shapes and sizes. Doing it correctly is a whole 'nuther story.

Well said 3.2 Targa

Tim: I just had mine re-done "correctly" from the Grandfather of all Refinishers. Depending on the desired outcome/finish you want -- Stock/Anodized, RSR, Chromed or Polished Lip finish, plan on $100-$145 a rim + shipping. The only other outside issue is if your wheels are out of balance. Plan on roughly $40 more.

As I was told by the man himself, "East Coast conditions are close to those in Germany. Black Center Anodized is the way to go, and the period correct Factory Finish. Porshe/Fuchs did it right. The Anodized finish helps to protect the rim in harsh conditions."

You get what you pay for. It sounds like the CO read a quick DIY thread and took some shortcuts. He also may have been frustrated as most refinishers are quoting about 3 - 4 weeks turn times.

Makes you wonder what other corners were cut in the car. Seems like reason enough to e concerned.

There are 2 godfathers of refinishing- Harvey Weidman and Al Reed. Both in Calif. No secrets there.

Hi:
Yes, I used Al. As mentioned, no affiliation etc. Call and speak with Al, but my best guess is that he is still running about 30 day turn-times.
