Reinstalled the compressor and receiver drier. Then checked the front condenser fan. With AC switch on ignition at acc the fan was not on. With engine on, it was not on. Fuse was good. Hooked leads to battery and fan worked. Traced wire to fuse relay panel. Unplugged relay and noticed it was plugging into one prong on socket. Plugged the relay back in correctly---fan works!

Relay blew hose! Probably due to overpressure.

This might be a little off topic, but does anyone know if the stock system has a glass view for the R12? I need a recharge, and would like to avoid evac'ing the whole system if possible, if theres a glass view somewhere I can just eyeball it

Yes, under a plastic cap on the receiver dryer, in the driver's side wheel well.

Better to charge by "pressures and temperatures" rather than site glass.

Haha I know I know, I'm a terrible human being, but Phoenix is really hot, and I just don't have the time to make r134 work right now haha, I'm still on a stock condensor with no fan! I'm barely getting by on r12!

Could someone help with some clarification on Grittiths commnents:
Don't know why you are focusing on the TEV's sensor, however the TEV's evaporator outlet sensing bulb (the copper tube coiled like a pig tail) needs to be attached to the TOP of the evaporator's outlet tube, held down with a clamp and covered with 1 to 2 layer's of Prestite. And, any spaces between the evaporator box and the evaporator's tubes where they exist the box should be sealed with the tape. You do not have to wrap the entire TEV in tape.
Am I reading this correctly that the only the curly/pig tail end of the tube needs to be insulated with the prestite? It appears on my '88 that the rest of the tube back was covered in prestite and I'm trying to clarify exactly what needs to be covered in prestite. I think he's also saying there can't be any external leaks from the evap. box, which makes sense.

1) only the curly/pig tail end of the tube needs to be insulated with the prestite

2) 'rest of the tube back was covered in prestite' - not necessary.. because "only the curly/pig tail end of the tube needs to be insulated with the prestite "

3) 'there can't be any external leaks from the evap. box' =
"any spaces between the evaporator box and the evaporator's tubes where they exist the box should be sealed with the tape"

Thanks for the clarification! Mine had tape all over the place which is what had me confused. Probably need to upgrade to some of your products...pretty much putting lipstick on a pig at this point, although I have added an additional wheel well condenser.
