5th to 4th hitting Reverse
If I am downshifting there are times when I will hit reverse, I know there is a reverse lockout so how am i hitting it, can this be adjusted?

I've got the same problem with my '77 (with 78SC engine). I've been driving sticks for 30 years, including two previous 911s, so I'm hoping it's not just me losing my touch.

From the mid-70's on, the basic lockout design was, as I remember, a spring wire loaded latch on the carrier plate. Perhaps over time the wire spring relaxes? There's no replacement spring in the parts catalog, but perhaps upon examination something could be done. The Porsche part number for the carrier plate is 911.424.063.04, should you decide to replace the entire plate. To get the carrier plate out, you need to disassemble the shift tower, as if you were going to install the Porsche short shift kit.

Had the same problem with my 85 and the newer style shift tower. Overhauled the shift coupling and linkage with new bushings and then adjusted the linkage as per the Pelican tech article and made a big difference.
Might give that a try...

I had same issue with my 86 911. Reverse lock-out on shifter checked out fine. Solution was adjustment to linkage - trial and error to get it right but final setting was to extend linkage so shifter hits lock-out before reverse gear.
