Wheel size question. Need fast answer
I have a 1973 911T Targa. Will a set of phone dial wheels (15x6 and 15x7) with 23.3 mm offset and backspacing at 125mm fit my car?
I have a chance to upgrade the stock wheels on my car that are in less than good shape.
Thanks,
Scott Harris

Not sure about the phone dial offset, but may folks have put 15 or 16x7 wheels on early narrow bodied 911s (front and back).
The problem arises when your try to put a 225 sized tire on that 7" rim. I have seen Fuchs of 195 and 205 size on 7" Fuchs rims on early, non-flared cars. These are sizes that also work well with 6" wheels, but the 7" wheel in the same tire size does not put down a significant increase of rubber on the road.
For 225 size tires, you will need to find some R Fuchs or perhaps a custom built hybrid Fuchs in the same R offset - or some other custom wheel.
Even with an R offset Fuchs, custom fitting will probably be required with spacers, camber adjustment and such.
If you have some 16x6 Fuchs, you could follow (to a narrower degree) Jack O's custom Fuchs but made to a 16 or 17x7 with an R offset. Or perhaps the three piece Fuchs.
IMHO, the best way to get a 225 on a 7" rim is to spend the money on a set of R Fuchs - prepare to spend some $s, but prepare to probably enjoy great appreciation of your wheels and great appreciation from other savvy early 911 folks!
Check the Rennlist and Pelican archives for a more detailed discussion of your query.

I settled all the problems. I bought a set of 15x6 cookie cutters in GREAT shape, with the inlaid center caps for $350. I'm mounting a set of 195/65VR-15's on them. I'll pull off the Fuchs on the car now and take my sweet time refinishing them.

Yup, 15x6 cookie cutters all arround. But, I'm going with the 205/60R-15's instead of the 195/65R-15's. It will be a week or two before I get the wheels mounted, balanced and installed. I will post a picture or two once they are on. Then I can install the turbo tie rods, and the 47 other projects I have planned.

Here are some pictures of my 1973 911T Targa with the 15x6, 205/60VR-15 Yokahamas installed. Only issue now is the car seems to have a slightly nose up attitude and the passenger side seemd slightly lower than the drivers side. Any thoughts as to why this would be?

Is it possible for the front shocks to stick to a point that it would keep a slightly nose up attitude? Conversley, if the rear shocks were worn enough, could that cause the rear end to "sink"?
