Default my first 911 valuation help (1974)

I'm looking at buying my first Porsche, it is a 1974... the 2.7 has been rebuilt in 1990 at 85,000 miles it now has 130,000. the rebuild was basically a Bruce Anderson job I have been told. Webbers, crane cam, oil cooler ect but non carrera tensioners (now on its second set of tensioners since the rebuild) SSI heat exchangers Divilar studs euro rs distributer. the car has galvanized front fenders and e-code lights thanks to a parking lot mishap and has been painted twice. the fog lights are off as the wiring has a short. The paint is pretty good but the front has a crack, and the doors have very minor rust bubbles. The interior is pretty good with a small dash crack. The radio is blown due to welding work when the front fenders were fixed and some owner in the cars past cut holes in firewall to mount 6x9 speakers behind the rear seats. the car also has steel SC flares on the rear and 911 S suspension, apparently the car was ordered with aluminum calipers. underneath the car looks pretty good with rust only at the rear jacking points. the battery box looks good. surface rust on the steering rack box, i want to dig in deeper here to look for any hidden issues, but don't suspect to find too many.

the car sat for the last 2 years as it would not start. I went to look at it and got it running, MSD had a broken connection. Car smoked a bit on start up but once warmed up was fine and seemed to drive well. I was the passenger, he wanted to warm it up and my thoughts were the car has sat for 2 years I dont want to be the one to wreck it if something isn't quite right. He is asking $9,000.

while this would be my first Porsche i have had a few miatas I've built up and have other Porsches in the family. I can do some repairs work myself, but dont want to always be wrenching on it. My goal for this car is to have a fun summer car that will see a DE or auto-x once in a while.

Please let me know what you think.

After you put another $10k in it, you will be about half way to a very nice, very old 911. Don't pay $9000. More like $7000, give or take.

thanks for your honest input. ending up with a $27,000 1974 911 scares me a little.

The '74 gives you smog exemption in California. The advantages stop there unless the car is already in great shape and in need of nothing. Be really honest with yourself. If you want to wrench, I mean really want to get dirty night after night with this thing then go for it. If you don't then it may be best to pass. Buying the car can be the least expensive part of owning the car.

Rust in the front pan, inside the rear wheel wells by the tailight buckets.wo

Two repaints and it has issues again is a red flag.
