Post Valve gaskets... Pro and con

About to do a valve adjustment, and there are 3 different kinds of gaskets available for my '84. Graphite, silicon, and silicon with bead. What are the pros and cons of these? I'd rather not spend the extra money if there's no benefit. I think I already have the 930 valve covers, BTW.

Hi John,
Personally I just purchased the factory gaskets with new lock nuts. I feel in another year or two I’ll be adjusting the valves and installing new gaskets again and would not feel right buying the silicone gaskets and reusing them, would rather buy less expensive factory items and replace them at each valve adjustment.

I've had good luck (ie no leaks) with the beaded gaskets

The silicone-beaded gaskets are only used on the exhaust-side covers. The graphite work fine on the intake, but if you really want an oil-tight lower cover, use the beaded ones there. I have not tried the silicone type that are supposed to be reusable.

i've used the all gray graphite ones forever, thousands of them, with no problems. they have more thickness to compress and take up irregularities in the cover that the hard, thin green ones will not.

I would go for OEM. Have heard stories about some of the others not fitting properly. Of course, DO NOT use any sealant
