Default 2.7L to 3.0L swap?

Hi all,
I'm a 996 refugee over from the other forums. My brother in law has a 77 Targa with a blown engine. He is thinking about installing a 3.0 from a 78SC or 79. Does anyone know if this is an easy plug and play or are there many difficulties with this upgrade? He'd like to stay away from replacing the 2.7 if possible because of the inherent issues (as he found out) with this motor.

The current fuel system is the CIS. Was there much of a difference between this system and the 1978 K jet or later MFI?

Thanks.

Thats one of the easiest conversions,...

Install the 3.0 SC engine and its complete CIS and ignition system. You'll need the SC tach, too.

Be sure to add the SC's front oil cooler system to enjoy the durability of that engine, too!

Clive,
bad from the start. I guess he was sold a dud. We brought it down to Brent at Hunter Motorsport and he started it up and it blew smoke everywhere. It would require a complete overhaul.

Plan B is the upgrade to the 3.0. No more 2.7's!

One thing that may have caused the issue with the 2nd motor - no upgraded 11 blade fan so it could have been running too hot for years before he bought it. His 1st orig engine had oil leaks - perhaps head stud issues? Paper weights now!

As you point out, they can be hard to find, at least good ones anyway.

The women folk would be put off by them as tables, I can hear it now... "I keep banging my legs against those little, what are they, fins or grills or something"?
