Euro spec 3.0 liter info request
Just got a '73 with a Euro Spec 3.0 liter. I've tried "searching", but haven't found the right combo to isolate any charts / guides or reference material for the year mfg. for this engine.
Anybody have the reference numbers? serial # 6670702
thanks,
kj

KJ, my Uncle has a '77 3.0 and I know the engine is all 930 parts minus the turbo. They are amazing engines! Maybe one of the best street motors Porsche has built.

Thanks Jay....
A little info. has trickled in and I'm hearing it is:
'77 930 based
8.5:1 compression (this surprised me)
w/2.7 crank
200 hp (with the lower than expected compression, this surprised me too)
Prior owner said it was a very peppy engine. I'm looking forward to having this engine back in that car.
thanks,
kj

"6670702":
6 = 6 cyl engine
6 = Carrera 3.0
7 = 1977
0702 = consecutive serial #
Bore = 95mm
Stroke = 70.4mm
200 hp (DIN); 197 hp (SAE) @ 6K rpm
Max rpm = 7K

Oh my gosh!
I've been studying pages 44-45 trying to sort things out and get some ballpark ideas and comparisons.
I just heard from another source that the possible reason for the "200 HP" figure (since apparently not through compression) would be different cam timing.
Any ideas how much HP was robbed by the 'anti-smog' equipment of the US versions?
And while you mention it - should redline be 6K with 7k as the 'upper safety limit'? or are you saying 7k is redline (seems a bit high for this vintage, but I'll ask out of ignorance)
thanks Peter,
Ken J

Ken; yes, 7K is the red line for that engine, but it makes max power at 6K rpm.
No US versions of the 3.0 Carrera. I'm sure the extra hp came from Euro, non-cat exhaust. Also, cams were different from its 2.7 liter little brother. The cams were probably used in the first SCs ('78/79 - 930/04 engines), but those cars only had 180 hp (DIN) because of the cat, smog pump ('78/79), and EGR (CA). It's difficult to root out some of the RoW numbers, but it seems like Porsche just settled on 180 hp, for all markets, when the SC was built, and only built a 204 hp (DIN) RoW motor beginning in '81.
Is your engine a 930/02?

I am looking into what my Uncle's 3 liter has for a number just for kicks. Maybe they knew each other at the factory!
Update: Numbers aren't that close. His engine # is 6671166
