Default raised hub steering wheel-89 911

sorry for a dumb question but I've just purchased an 89 911 Carrera and it has the raised hub steering wheel option.....I can't tell from looking at the wheel but is the raised hub a separate piece or is the wheel/hub all one ? would love to take it off as in the past 911's I've owned I'm much more comfortable without the wheel that much closer to me.......tomasso

The raised hub makes the wheel offset towards the windshield. It is one piece (I think).
You can tell by looking at it because the distance between the horn pad and the outer ring should be larger on top than bottom.

The raised hub option was designed to make entry/exit from the car easier.

Actually, it has a "longer" hub. The groove in the one pictured below shows the additional length.

I'll buy it off of you if you consider selling it. I'm long legged and it puts me further away from the wheel. The extension is a bit more comfortable for me.

Sorry, just sold it a few weeks ago to a fellow Rennlister.

It looks black in the pic but was actually Marine Blue.

Thanks, but I was actually referring to 'Tomaso' - if he feels like he'd like to sell his wheel.

Was there ever a reply to the original question on this thread - can the extra hub "piece" be removed to return the wheel to the original (shorter) distance to the windshield and further away from the driver? I have same problem - the wheel is too close to my chest. Thanks for any help.

The raised hub option is an integral part of the steering wheel. Canepa Designs recently added one to a wheel for me so I could get a more comfortable driving position. Required some fabrication of "extension piece" and a few spot welds of some sort. Looks good finished. I'm happy.
