Angry Tail light harness plug - urrrghhh!

I love german engineering (not!).

In process of rebuilding a 1974 911S - body all done, working on lights/wiring prior to new interior - but the bloody lights have turned into a major effort (this is an old project car - someone else stripped a while ago). I seem to have all the wires figured out - but old tail lights had been totally removed from body - there is a female connector/plug that fits into a hole way up inside the rear corner.

How do you get that beauty into the hole?
- down on the ground, arm kinked up into the rear fender - cannot get enough force onto the plug to just force it in - have twisted & turned & swore - but the beast just is not going in.

What's the trick?
