Actually, my ’87 has a power top and yes, they are a PITA to get right if they break. I think the power top was an option. If you can find one that came with a manual top, then get that. I should probably have just converted mine, but I can’t stand not having things right. The mechanism isn’t complicated once you understand it, but parts are very expensive if you need to purchase them. I wish I had documented my repair job as I think others might have found it valuable. Even so, I would be happy to help anyone if they have questions.

I think the last time I was in Texas in the summer, I had the top down for all of ten minutes... With the AC on HIGH. Not a Porsche.
I expect I would want a Boxster S . Or another car to drive while the Targa was parked in the shade. If I bought a 993, I don't think I would want a convertible. I used to alternate between a built 911 SC and a really nice 951. STELLAR AC on the 951, absolutely THE BEST.

If A real AC system is a must than it's got to be a 964 or a 993. The 964 gives you more of the old school look.
I have seen some 964's backdated and they look awesome! There was an 94 Widebody 964 Convertable called the America Roadster. Might be a good choice.

Actually, the best would be found in the later 928's. My '91 had the front and rear evaporators and blowers, and close to 350HP turning the compressor.

Just doesn't get that hot in CO, for that long, to throw money at the AC.
Daily driver and drive targa top off mornings and evenings when in it warm. Love driving nights with targa top folded into the trunk.
AC never worked well and decided not to throw money after that one... at least for now

The 88 Targa is back home - thanks for selling her back to me Mark (and taking proper care of her). This completes my porsche tour. Over a year ago I had a 997 C4S Cab which I sold to buy this 88 Targa. Then it was a 930, two 993TT's, one 996TT and now back to where I started. Hard for me to explain but I think the G50 3.2 cars are very special. I dont plan to ever sell it (no really).

IMO the best are the 78-89 SC or Carerra Targa's here is why,
Forget AC its a targa if its warm enough for the AC just take the top off that's what its there for. Any way here is why I think the targa is the best of the bunch, mind you im a 20 year old college student...
Over the years I have noticed a few things. Women love stars, women love being complimented, women love there hair, and men love to drive fast. The Targa creates the ultimate vehicle for this. With the top off on a warm summer night the ladies can see the stars, with the rear glass window the wind and wind noise are reduced compared to that of a cabriolet. This reduction keeps the ladies hair from getting every where, it also keeps wind noise down so they can hear you when you compliment them. In the end of the day its a 911 so you are having a blast while driving it, it also has that classic 911 look a sign that you have taste (not that there is any thing wrong with the new cars). Thus the 911 Targa is the car you want.
Regards
Dave
