Default 911 3.2 Carrera Cooling Fan - To Paint or...

I am thinking of having my cooling fan cleaned up and then powder coated. I have heard that this is a more durable solution than simple painting. I will have both the fan and the housing done the same way. Has anyone done this? Someone recommended an alternative of getting replacement parts made in aluminum from Vertex Automotive (these two parts would be around $1,000 total). Has anyone done that? Do you leave the aluminum alone, or paint/powder coat? Thanks for any advice.

Powdercoating is very durable, also seals against moisture (not that our fans will rust or anything) and also makes cleanup very very easy. I use some basic cleaner wax and a very soft towel and it cleans right up. I had mine done. Almost removed my AC while I was there. Here's a few pics to tease you. (stock fan BTW) On general painting you will find that if the prep work is lacking anywhere that the paint may not stick, or it may perhaps flake or only last a year or two and start to come off (unless you did really good prep work and used a good paint). Powdercoating goes on very well because of the way it is applied and tends to be extremely resistant to flaking or coming off. I'm going on a year now and it looks fantastic.

Mine is polished...this is what it looked like when I bought the car. It still holding pretty well after 3 years, but I have to admit all I do is wipe it off.
