Post Low RPM Acceleration Woes

My '72 T is rough and sluggish when warm up until about 2000 RPM, when it backfires. After the backfire, everything is fine until I shut it off. Upon re-start, the same thing happens. Last Friday, the backfire never came and the rough acceleration continued throughout the rev-band and all weekend long. The car wouldn't exceed 65-70 mph. On Monday, at a stoplight on the way to my mechanic, it blew dark smoke for about a minute and then I realized that it was idling normally and all was well. Does anybody know what the hell is going on here? I've contacted numerous Porschephiles and no one seems to have heard of this phenomenon. I have mechanical fuel-injection (final year) and I'm thinking the problem may lie there. If you can shed any light on this unpleasantness I'd sure appreciate it.undefined

Pelican's tech site has a great section on mfi: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...FI/TipMFI.htm. Check this out also: http://www.geocities.com/william_armentrout/mfi.html.

Pull a plug and check it.Sounds like it might be loading up. The sites i pointed you to will tell all on mfi and what to do first. It takes a long time to get it right.
