Default Manufactured dates of tires

Guess what? I actually "Searched" this forum's archives and got an answer to something!!! So I won't be asking a question on the subject!

But I also in learning how to read tire serial numbers got some disturbing/enlightening news on the ages of my tires. Fronts = 35/01 and rears = 12/01. The rears are worn down to the tread indicator gauge and the fronts look pretty new. Not quite the "brand new" set of fronts that Pedigree Motorcars represented! And how could they let me drive 2200 miles on rears that were that worn? Heck, they didn't even know the correct size for the front tires! At least I know for next time.

So my decision to buy all 4 is VERY justified. I just wonder how the car drove 2200 miles before having any tire issues?

Thanks to everyone here in helping me to navigate through this tire drama.

Driving on close to bald tires is on you. Driving on 10 year old tires is on the guy who allegedly did the PPI.

really pisses me off that a PPI misses tire dates...seen it way too many times before

tire condition and tire age are very different...

FYI... I learned the hard way...and the nearly really hard way...this is video of my 996 tire a couple months after I got it and just 1 day after a DE.... my tire had lots of tread but was 11 years old...it came apart the day after the DE....close enough to make me still pretty scared about it...

look at Falken tires too, I like mine and the V/W/Y rated tires are very reasonable, might save a bit ...

$200 for a PPI should have raised some flags. If they recommended who did the PPI...should have raised some flags. Not getting a written PPI report prior to purchase...should have raised some flags. It is up to you to make sure you did due diligence.

The wrong front tires on this car were the first thing I noticed in your first thread , Tim. I surely would have expected the shop to catch it if they have experience with these cars.
Don't be discouraged or disappointed. In every "which 911 should I buy?" thread, the conclusion is usually: have a couple of grand in escrow to do some basics right after your purchase. A set of tires and a battery is an easy task. I would also schedule a good time to drop it off at a GOOD shop and have it gone over and perhaps a major service performed. Tim, you have a great 911 and will have years of joy from ownership.

That's what I figured but am disappointed in my dropping the ball in some of these areas.

so did you get new ones yet?
Man when i bought my 911 i just talked the guy down as low as i could and hit the road. I wasnt sure if it would even make it home. If your too picky about it youll never find one! Took me about 4 years to find one local that was even close to what i wanted.
