Default Right fuel for 911 Carrera

What is the right fuel for my 88 911? Kind of confusing from reading the owner's manual. I think 92 octane? How bout' some specific brands to look for and stay away from. I'll be driving from Miami to Maine starting Friday. Thanks.

I don't burn anything less than 93 octane in my 88. In some states 92 is the highest you can get.

I always run the highest octane available, shell is probably the best gasoline but pretty much anything is fine in these cars to be honest.

For low altitude, 93 is recommended. In other words, premium. For high altitude, like in Denver where I live, 91 is premium. The octane requirement decreases with altitude.

I'm guessing that the recognizable name stations are also better.

I'm not sure if there is a better brand per se. I seem to prefer the stations where cute girls pump the gas.....(i live in Oregon. We're really progressive out here) . And that's not to say that I let them pump my gas btw. The rule is they have to hand you the pump.

Anyway, I do love me some non-ethanol...

After the record rain falls here in the Northeast this summer there was a problem with water seeping into underground tanks. I try to use stations that appear to have high turnover. Also, do you have the stock chip? The SW's come in different flavors to accomodate what is available in your area. So, I presume, a CA car (for example) with a SW chip would be set up for 91. I assume FL is 93 though.

Man, you are going to have so much fun!!

Here's where you can go to find the best quality gas for our cars - Top Tier Gas

And here's where you can find gas stations that offer ethanol-free gas in the U.S. and Canada - Pure Gas

I switched to Shell 93 octane recently and my 88 Carrera is so much improved. Idles better and accelerates smoother.

I'd suggest 93 octane no ethanol, if at all possible. also, put in a bottle of Techron before you head North.

What would you guys recommend in a '79sc? I've been using premium, but this past week i ended up in the middle of nowhere and the only station there didn't have hightest. I filled with regular and I'm not sure if i can feel the difference... Were the high octanes even available at service stations back then?
