engine power loss
hello,
I have a 1972 911 T...driven about 150 miles since i purchased it...driven fine, 40k miles, purchased for 5 grand, figured what the heck to use it as a DE car
today...gas gauge was near empty, the engine just lost all power, it was floored and the engine didn't even rev up( which makes me think either fuel/ignition problem, not clutch)....then power came back and rev's were up....1/2 mile later same deal....am i out of gas???...if so tell me i am stupid and i will know what the gas gauge is really reading....the previous owner lives across town and he told me the points caused the car to die on him but had that fixed...anyone had a problem like this or am i just running out of gas?..the car would start up just fine, just the sudden loss of power....i put a few gallons in it a hour ago and will drive close to the house tomorrow when the sun comes up, just seeing if this rings a bell with anyone
thanks for any suggestions

I have '70 "T" and am having the same problem. Went to the track a couple weeks ago, after 6 laps, no power. It had happened once before with not too much gas in the tank. The time at the track had a brand new full tank. Yesterday, I picked it up from the shop, did the same thing. After it is shut off for a few minutes, it runs great. A few suggestions I have gotten are plugged fuel filter, or screen, stuff in the tank. I will have to take it back in to check these things. I don't think it is an injector problem, mine is carborated. I agree, it is very frustrating to floor it and go nowhere fast!
I have a 1973 911T with the MFI and experienced the same exact thing. Have you checked your fuel pump to ensure it's in good shape? No audible humming when the engine is running. I ended up replacing the fuel tank, I had rust in it clogging the fuel pick up, and I replaced the fuel pump too. The engine is being rebuilt now, so I'll have to wait awhile longer to see if my problem is gone.
