I was out driving last Sunday, cruising at 3,500rpm on 5th gear, when the engine suddenly cut off for 1/2 second, and then continued to run as normal. This has never happened before or since. Any ide what this could be? DME relay? Loose contact? Where should I start to look?

seriously a single data point is almost impossible to find..I think you need to wait for a repeat

in the mean time consider fuel pump, dme relay and maybe a fuel filter - all cheap and if you dont know the service history on those, it might be good preventative maintenance anyhow
