Default Cork interiors

I remember going to the L.A. Auto Show in the late 70's and seeing the most gorgeous Porsche's with a metallic gray exterior and a cork interior. I never see that combo on a car for sale and have only seen 1 or 2 cork interiors. Were they just not that popular? How long was "cork" around for? Thanks.

Iceman/Jay: Thanks, sure wish I could find one! Guess I'll have to start a "project" someday and recreate!

So I'm removing the interior of my car so I can redo everything since it needs a refresh. What I found is that on some panels where the leather was peeling off is this "cork" color material underneath. Can anyone verify if Porsche first covered panels with leather-like material (to get a good shape perhaps?) then covered it in the final material to match the interior color? If not then maybe my panels were recovered for whatever reason. I'll post a picture tomorrow since I'll be working on it.

The 911 Red Book says cork was offered from 1977 to 1980.

Another book I need to add, thanks Brett! Come on Ice, you've gotta be getting tired of that "hockey stick" thing?!

Is cork still a color that is available for renovations today?
