Default Favorite winter tires for 911s?

Found some winter wheels locally, some phone dials in 23mm offset. Looks like 15x7s.. looks like 205/55/15 is the popular size after searching and seeing feedback on various forums.

What are the popular/favored tread that you guys have found you like?

I had dunlop sport winter treads on my 944 and loved them, but I read a lot of people that seem to swear by the blizzaks.

We do sometimes get deep snow, icy roads and horrible snow storms here from time to time. Last season I got around in a few storms in regular summer tires but got stuck once (embarrassing) and got myself out but all things considered the 911 got around pretty darn well in proxes which surprised the hell out of me since the last time I got caught with my pants down in summer tread it was not a pleasant experience.

Can't say I'd like to do it again though, so I'd like to get on the go and be prepared this time

Ordered blizzaks and they went back ordered. Ended up canceling and going with cont winter extremes. Already got some snow this way and had a chance to enjoy my SC in the snow. Fun stuff and the tires are great for it! Loving it. These cars are a blast in the snow.

I know I will take flack for this, but I am going with all season tires here in ATL. I have selected Bridgestone Potenza 970 AS's.

Personally, I don't know why you would want to drive a classic like yours in the winter. Beats them up badly.

I can't speak to others reasons, but I bought mine to drive every day. I love driving it and it loves to be driven. It puts a smile on my face every time I get in and start it up.

I was wondering why you were looking at winter tires...does it snow that often in Atlanta? And that is truly an honest question as I have never lived there.

I have Potenzas (pole position) on my 911 as well, but couldn't tell you how good they are in snow as I have never driven my car in the snow. I have been caught while snowing on my way home from work, but not while there was any accumulation.

I was looking at running winter/summer on two sets of wheels, which the purists all say is better. Every thread I have read contains the maxim that all seasons are really not ideal for anything, since they are designed to work in all seasons. I cannot justify running winter tires here, even after last winter as bad as it was. So now I am thinking of running all seasons and then later adding a set of Summer Performance/Track tires to the other wheels.

I enjoy driving my car all the time. Why not? Enjoying it in the snow as well, so far I'm diggin' how much fun it is in the snow.

+1 for Blizzaks. I had a set on my '89 targa then my 993, now they're on my Father in law's Boxster. Great tires.
