Post new carpet

My interior is in dire need of refurbishing. I am going to try and do this myself. On the carpet. Will I need to buy new rubber for the doors? It looks like the carpet is glued in the channel under the seal. What kind of carpet do you suggest? Is it just a matter of preference when you start talking about velour vs squareweave vs whatever else kind of type of carpet is out there. What kind is most durable/best buy (not necessarily cheapest)/best looking. I have a 81 911 Targa with beige or champagne - not sure exactly what you call it - interior.

Just completed a carpet installation in my 82SC. I purchased the set from Original Fit Interiors and it was the domestic grade. Call them and ask for a sample their number is 209-852-9084.

Personally, I felt like the fit and finishing of the edges was very good but the overall quality of the material was below my expectations. But, does not look bad after installation and a good set of quality Lloyd mats helps.

Installation was easy, just do a few pieces at a time starting around the edges and work towards the center of the car. You will need to apply adhesive in certain areas, just clean the old gonk off with 3M adhesive cleaner first. Also use 3M brand spray adhesive, it is the best.

Here is a link to a site detailing what I went through doing the interior restoration on my 74.

I used Original Fit as well and I didn't see any difference in the carpet quality from the others I looked at - I think they get all of it from the same place anyway. All of the pieces matched up perfect and I recieved my carpet 2 days after ordering it. (YMMV)

The one thing you need to do is remember the order in which the pieces come out and put them back in order because some of them overlap others.

There are other projects on my web sites that you may want to think about as well.
