Default I can't possibly have stock gear ratios...

Hey guys, I purchased a 84 911 recently and I remember the PO mentioning he had the gearbox rebuilt, and looked in my receipts and sure enough sychros 1, 2, and 3 were replaced and it mentioned gears 2,3,4, and 5. The receipt is cryptic to say the least and hard to make out exactly what was done but it added up to over 5k. Now why i posted this thread because i want to know what speeds you guys are going in what gears...
here they are for my car at 6400 rpm with a rear tire size of 255/40zr17 (plus or minus a few mph)

1st: 40
2nd: 80
3rd: 100
4th: 115
5th: 130+

this can't possibly be normal right? I searched but could not find anything on the stock mph of each gear. 1st to 2nd the car totally drops out of the power band and during normal driving i need to take the car up to 3k+ rpm in first so when i shift to second it won't bog, but then 2nd to 3rd feels like a crotch rocket dropping like 1000 rpm and 3rd 4th even less.... Did I luck out on a custom gear ratio rebuild?!?!

You need to provide an rpm and tire size at a minimum. A roll out of the tire would be even better.

for a stock US '84 Carrera w/ 245/45x16 tires w/ 23.9" rolling radius @6k the speeds in gear are;
35, 62, 87, 110, 139

hmm okay, well thank you very much for you help. looks like i probably have a wider second gear but 3,4, and 5 seem like they are probably stock (or close enough to it they might as well be.) Thank you so much for the help!

If you look in the last few pages of your owners manual, it will give you the speed/rpm graph for each gear.

Your numbers don't seem all that out of line. I've got a G50, but can easily hit the same numbers as you. There is nothing funner than cruising down the freeway at 70mph, dropping it into 3rd gear, and hitting 100mph in a matter of seconds. From a dead stop it isn't at all uncommon to take first gear to 40mph. ...besides, the spedo's are very optimistic.

Somewhere I've got a picture that shows my tach at 5,000rpm and spedo at 130mph.

Funny you mention DB. If you ever have the opportunity, drive any garden variety 930 with a 4 speed. There's nothing like the feeling of coming out of 2nd gear at 90 mph, chirping the tires in third and holding it to the mat until you run out of road or *****...and yes there is a 4th gear where the madness starts over around 140 but few people dare seek 4th.
