Interesting article in the September 2002 “Car & Driver”, titled the 10K HP Shootout. It’s gotten to be a yearly thing where they invite nationally known tuners to prepare cars to compete in acceleration, braking & yes cornering. This year’s winner was a twin turbo Corvette by the BIG GUY in Corvette land. While the second place car was a 2002 twin turbo 996 equipped w/the latest in go fast goodies from Autothority Stage V Kit. The interesting thing for me was that I got to watch the car go together earlier in the summer. From stripped down stocker, consisting of several big piles of parts, engine cases & chassis components to a front row place in a 2 page spread in a major US magazine. Ok it came in second to a 5.6 L Chevy, & cost over $200K to the Corvettes $113K. The 996 was faster in the ¼ mile, the road course, 150 to 0 braking, but getting edged out for total time by less than a second! It’s great to know that this kind of integrated performance packages (Autothority, Fairfax Va.) & the expertise to put it all together in a very short time frame (Pitstop Performance Tuning, Alexandria Va.) is right
